Empresa Portuaria de Valparaíso (EPV) has awarded OHL Concessions the tender for the operation under a concession of the new Terminal 2 at Valparaiso Port in Chile.

The concession period is 30 years and OHL Concessions Chile must make an investment of over 270 million Euros to double the port's current capacity.

The delivery of the breakwater dock will take place from next October, the date on which the concessionaire will take over operation of general merchandise traffic.

The new container terminal, which is scheduled to start operating by 2017, is designed to deal with import and export traffic and will have a capacity for at least two Super Post-Panamax ships to operate simultaneously.

The most important characteristics of the infrastructure are as follows:

- Berthing line: 725 m (container terminal) and 550 m (general merchandise) - Draft: 16 m - Surface area: 13.6 hectares (ha) - Capacity to handle an annual traffic of about 950,000 TEUs and 1,250,000 tons (t) of general merchandise

This project is the third concession OHL Concessions has been awarded in the port sector. It is currently participating in the Southern Extension of Alicante Port and the Tenerife Container Terminal, both in Spain.

The OHL Group's activities in Chile date back to the 80s and the company has since maintained a permanent presence in the country, with many important projects relating to civil works and transport infrastructure.

OHL Concessions, with extensive experience in the financing, construction and operation of transport infrastructure, has established itself as a strategic player in the market for PPP projects, carrying out its activity in all modes of transport infrastructure: highways, ports, railways and airports.
